3. Date of Establishment and brief history of the Department: -The Department of History was started on 14th August, 1981 with the establishment of the College. The Department of History has had a very humble beginning. The department began on slender resources with Md. Abdul Mozid Mortaza Ali, who was appointed as the founder Lecturer in the Department and who was willing to work for the community without thought for personal gain. But later on he had left the college when he got a Govt. job in Sabua Higher Secondary school as subject teacher in the department of history in Sibsagar District. Then one Mr. Riazuddin Ansary joined the the Department of History of Moirabari College and he also left the College after almost two years when he got the Govt. job in LOKD College in the District of Sunitpur. In 1988 Md. Saiful Islam Joined the Department on a nominal honorarium and he was followed by Md. Shamsuddin Mozumder and Rehan Jesmin as lecturers in 1993. Even in those straitened beginnings, the importance of inculcating historical knowledge to the youths of the generation was given due importance. Despite its humble and tumultuous beginning, the department exists to this very day and continues to run undergraduate course in History, both Honours and General. Apart from running undergraduate course in History, the Department also runs a six-month add-on course on tourism management. Besides providing classroom-learning, the Department also takes the students on study tours to places of historical and cultural importance so that the learners will have a firsthand experience of the things that they learn in the classroom. The department, currently, has three permanent faculties namely-Md. Shamsuddin Mozumder, Associate Professor, Rehana Jesmin, Associate Professor, and Moniram Engleng, who joined in the department after the retirement of Md. Saiful Islam on 24th September 2022 as Assistant Professor, who work with sincerity and dedication.
