Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, established in December, 2006 is the first Institution of Higher Education of Open and distance learning mode throughout the North East. With the aim of building a knowledge based society, this University was established to provide quality higher education through open and distance learning. The very purpose of the university is to promote education; to reach the unreached and the moto of the university is �Education Beyond Barriers�; beyond the barrier of age, academic background and geographical boundaries. Established under the provision of the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University Act, 2005, this university started functioning from 11th December, 2006. The university has been recognized and the academic programmes have been approved by the Distance Education Council, New Delhi on October 3rd, 2007 and University Grants Commission on March 18th, 2009. Government of Assam has recognized all Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programmes of the University for Jobs and higher studies vide letter no. AHE/228/2007/330 dtd. May 8th, 2009.With the view to help the learners from various parts of the state, the university has opened study centers in affiliated colleges and institutions of higher education. The Moirabari College Study Centre of the KKHSOU came into existence with the signing of the MOU between University authority and College authority on 7th June, 2023.
