Moirabari College

ARABIC DEPARTMENT

Profile

The Department of Arabic was established concurrently with the founding of Moirabari College on the 14th of August in 1981. Its core mission was to impart knowledge of the Arabic language and its literature to students at both the HS and Undergraduate levels. The overarching objective was to foster a profound understanding of the subject, recognizing Arabic as a language of global importance, intertwined with the rich Islamic civilization and vibrant Arab culture. Additionally, it served as a vital medium for the exchange of diverse social and cultural ideas through its extensive literary tradition. To meet these goals, Gauhati University devised specialized courses covering classical, modern, Indo-Arabic literature, and literary criticism, employing a pedagogical approach centered on critical assessment and appreciation.
